Yes, he knows that the true work of changing people is done on the inside…by God’s Spirit. But he wants to know that he and his team have done everything possible to make the entyre service compelling, inspiring, thoughtful and cohesive. The different elements of the service need to flow in a seamless blend and all contribute in a meaningful way to the overall theme.
He feels great about the opening worship set, and the special solo. In the Creative meeting last Tuesday with Randy, his worship leader, they both sensed the perfect fit and the momentum that would build from each song. At a crucial point of his message, Eric also decided to show the scene from the first Lord of The Rings movie, The Fellowship Of The Ring, where Frodo sets off for Mordor alone in the rowboat. Suddenly, Sam, who can’t swim, walks into the river after him, not about to be left behind. As Frodo pulls Sam to safety in the boat, the dialogueue between them is gripping. One of those defining moments of true bond and friendship.
Eric loves movies. He loves the powerful moments that the perfect scene can create and the impact it can leave on the congregation. Mostly, Eric loves to see how all the team’s plans and ideas come together in a beautiful blend of creativity each week. God is an amazing Orchestrator, he thought. Now, Eric prays that tomorrow’s service will flow in a way that truly honours God, and His Spirit will indeed do the inside work in the hearts and lives of the congregation that only He can do.
